Batman is unique among other superheroes. Unlike Superman or the Flash, the dark knight does not have super powers such as super strength or super speed. He relies more on his martial arts training and cool gadgets to stop criminals in their tracks. Batman probably uses more gadgets than any other comic book superhero. The Batarang is a tailor-made boomerang type of weapon that can be modified to suit every villain. The Batrope on the other hand allows Batman to scale and swing from tall buildings.

Robin, Batmans sidekick also uses gadgets that he and Batman concocted together. They would make state of the art Batman Gadgets in the safety of the Batcave. In the Batcave they were able to devise gadgets such as the Bat Radar, Bat Cuffs, Bat Camera, and even a Bat Spray to keep sharks at bay. The Batcave also houses the BatComputer which allows Batman to solve crime and monitor crime activity in Gotham city. Batmans alter ego, Bruce Wayne, is a multimillionaire and the owner of Wayne Corp. the biggest company in Gotham city. Batman used his money to develop weapons and technology that he needs to fight villains that terrorize Gotham city.

Another reason that Batman used gadgets was his dislike of using firearms. His parents were killed by a gunman making him feel that using firearms makes him no different from them. Batman without his Batman gadgets would be a lot less exciting, crime fighting batman style would be ordinary.

How Lawyers Got A Bad Rap

We have all heard the jokes and negative comments surrounding lawyers but have you ever wondered how it all got started. Just as with any profession, there is bad and good. Are there unethical, incompetent attorneys? Of course! Just as there are unethical, incompetent plumbers, physicians, and restaurant workers. However, for some inexplicable reason, it seems lawyers have had more than their fair share of bad. The complexity of the law and the demand for legal services from the boardroom to the coat room validate that the profession does have value, so why the bad press?

Well lets begin with fees. The hourly bill may just have been the beginning of the end for the legal profession. No one is in a good mood when an hourly meter is running, particularly when you cant control the number of hours that you purchase! Traditionally, Lawyers have relied on the hourly rate, as their standard for billing. With this billing arrangement, the law firm would maintain a record of everything done for you to include phone calls, written letters, court appearances, consultations, etc. You are then billed an agreed upon hourly fee for all of the time that was spent working on your behalf. In addition, you could also incur additional expenses such as transportation, document fees, even phone calls. While this practice is standard in many professions, many consumers believe that attorneys inflate expenses in an effort to make additional profit.

In truth, most service providers use an hourly rate to calculate a fee. In example, an accountant might quote you a fee of $250.00 to review your taxes. The fee is not out of line with your geographic area and the accountant comes highly recommended so you opt to hire him/her at this rate. What you may not realize is that the $250 flat fee may be based on the accountants knowledge that the review will take 2.5 hours of time at $100 per hour.

Many attorneys have become a bit more market savvy and offer alternative billing arrangements. Rather than hourly bills and separate expense charges, they may offer case rates, retainer agreements and other solutions. Another area that has eroded the reputation of lawyers is the unfortunate lapses in ethical behavior. For example, in the state of South Carolina a young man was on trial for a murder that most believe he never committed. His family sold their home, cars, and gathered all the cash possible to hire a good defense lawyer. Believing their son was in the best hands possible, they discovered that the prosecuting attorney was married to their lawyers sister and that pertinent information had been shared, resulting in a mistrial. As you can imagine, this put a black mark against those attorneys, as well as others who were innocent but within the same community.

Personal injury law has been another source of questionable ethics. Billboard and commercial advertisements abound with the promise of high dollar settlements for your case. This marketing tactic only adds to the negative perception of the legal profession, as it makes them appear as ethical as snake oil salesmen.

Additionally, most of us have heard the horror stories about attorneys collaborating back room deals with physicians. In this instance, an attorney wanting to win a case involving a car accident or injury on the job might send his client to a special doctor that will validate and even overemphasize the level of injury. The doctor testifies in court in support of the plaintiff, giving the attorney and case strong credibility. Again, these practices are not standard for all personal injury lawyers but unfortunately the actions of a minority have significantly impacted the majority.

The attorneys that engage in unethical practices deserve to be drummed right out of the profession. Sadly, it is unlikely to happen because just as there is a market for competent, ethical law practitioners there is also a market for the legal underbelly. People that desire to bring forward fraudulent lawsuits, illegal adoptions or even illegal immigrations will turn to attorneys who are willing to work around the established rules of law.

Most attorneys are honest, hard-working individuals who take their work very seriously. Because of this, we see a number of law firms working to change public opinion. There are dishonest professionals in any field. We can look to education for current examples. There seems to be a spate of sex scandals involving schoolteachers, yet, the four cases that have been highlighted in the news within the past year does not mean all schoolteachers are sex offenders.

The same is true with lawyers. Yes, we have seen cases in which some are not honest and sadly, those are the cases exploited through the media. What you do not hear much of are stories about the reputable attorneys that solve cases and help improve or even change lives. While the public may not be quite ready to elevate lawyers to hero status maybe, just maybe we can start a kinder, gentler trend of being a little nicer.

Pearl Jam Rock Music CD Review

Pearl Jam is the latest Rock CD put out by the extremely group Pearl Jam and they have once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks. Im confident Pearl Jam fans, and Rock fans alike will be pleased with this one.

These days its a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs.

This CD literally grabs your attention right from the very first note with Life Wasted and doesn't let go until the very last note of the very last song Inside Job, which is another great track by the way.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and youve got one of Pearl Jam most impressive releases ever.

Overall Pearl Jam is an outstanding release. Quite possibly Pearl Jam's best to date. Really sensational from beginning to end. If you're even mildly into Rock music you'll enjoy this album.

Im of the opinion that Pearl Jam is certainly some of this groups best work in a few years. A totally enjoyable CD and an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up because its a collection that even the casual Rock fan can appreciate and enjoy.

Listen to and I think youll agree that the song choices are excellent, the production is outstanding and Pearl Jam is clearly a group that is in top form.

While the entire CD is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 2 - World Wide Suicide, track 5 - Marker In The Sand, and track 10 - Wasted Reprise.

My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 12 - Army Reserve. Its a great track!

Controversy over Manhunt 2

Controversy over Manhunt 2 spreads as Britain and Ireland have already censored the computer video game; and sales in the US look to be put on hold or restricted all together.

In New Your video game publisher Take-Two announced on Tuesday June 19th that it was temporarily suspending the release of the ultra violent computer video game "Manhunt 2" because of the ongoing rating issues faced in the United States and the the ban in Britain and Ireland.

Take-Two said int a statement that it need time to "reviews its options" but would "continue to stand behind this extraordinary game."

"We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment," Take-Tow explained.

The computer video game "Manhunt 2" had been scheduled for release on July 10th in the Untied States for both the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 2.

However critics are concerned with games' content, "which depicts escape of an amnesiac scientist and a psychotic killer from an asylum and their subsequent killing spree. In the Wii version, the consoles motion-sensitive remote is waved around to control a virtual murder weapon."

There is still skepticism on whether violent video games lead to violent behavior, but many big retailers, such as Wal-Mart, which accounts for 25 percent of U.S. computer video game sales, refuse to carry "Adults Only" titles.

This suspension was a setback for creator of Roskstar games, which came under fire for the popular "Grand Theft Auto" series of urban crime games, with Take-Tow earlier this year "underwent a shareholder coup that ousted its chief executive and nearly all of its board."

Take-Two has done very well for itself with last year revenues just over $1 billion, and with Manhunt 2 it is expected to generate around $40 million according to analysts, which suspension or setback can hurt Take-Two sales.

For Take-Two new management its goals are to rein in the creative talent and tell the video game industry that they are in the business of making money and to make games that sell not game that are artistically beautiful but not available at Wal-Mart. Agreed, if Take-Two or Rockstar or whatever company creates game that may look great but are to violent or have too much sexual content to be put on the selfs at Wal-Mart that need to reconsider how they create their games.
